There was perhaps a time when identity was simpler. "My name is John Smith. I mend shoes. My father Joe Smith also mended shoes. Our family lives in London."
Yet the evolutionary impulse and the intricate interconnected-ness of life on Earth calls for a deeper exploration. As we travelled, explored new lands, fused genetic lines with those who had different origins and ancestry, we enriched the expression of the human genome, adding to it the permutations and combinations that are capable of variety, brilliance, courage and inhumanity. Yes, we expressed and grew the full spectrum of human nature.
Today almost every human on the planet has two identities. The first is the so-called "real one" in 3D reality. The second, is an on line identity across multiple social media, personal, and institutional websites. The former, is expressed within a world with uncertainties, restrictions due to COVID, and human constructs. The latter, on line identity lives in a world which has no borders, spreads exponentially, and is often the point of first contact. No human is exempt from expectation, and delivery.
How can we show up with authenticity, in a world which can judge us, long before they meet us? How do we create privacy for growth and maintain elements of mystery that make human interaction interesting and rewarding ?
Congruence, confidence, and clarity are key in my opinion. In my experience none of these are born via outside achievements alone. Rather it is the surrender to a deeper truth of constant change, growth, and embracing myself as "a journey" vs "a destination" that helps anchor an awareness of who I am. I have come a long way. I have accomplished many wonderful things. I have loved, won, and lost. I believe it's always possible to make positive change, I believe deep down that I am travelling to yet another potentially great place. (Irrespective of what my current circumstances might reveal). Along the way there are experiences to cherish. I hold these close. There are others, whom without, I would not be where I am today. We are one.
I found the chaos and strife of life, often robs us of the time to understand each other. We also loose the pause that allows us to consider what exactly we express, and how this may inform our lives and the lives of others. A world where a tweet can reach millions within seconds calls for deeper thought and reflection before posting it. It is no longer OK to act or react in haste. We must act/respond from the best within us.
It is our considered expression of wisdom and spontaneity of genius that will allow the human race to navigate an uncertain period of human history, to a place where we may all thrive. It is possible. It calls for discipline, dedication, and inspired action. We have an inheritance of resilience and potential to be the people we can be proud to be.
At the "Heart of Gaia" we explore its three pillars - wisdom, energy, and community uncovering the gift of who we are. We learn to trust in love, our own presence, and bring our best to situations. We learn to sense the world by becoming one with it. We allow our light to shine helping others to discover their own.
This is the first lesson of the 7 Day program launched Christmas Day 2020. Below are the remaining exercises from Day 1.
