On this page I introduce you to the evolution of my artistic expressions. Each image has multiple layers and words which are intended to take you on a journey to discover something new. There is always a fusion with nature and an acknowledgement of her complex, vast beauty and our place as humans within it.
I find beauty, exquisite design, and inspiration in nature. I try to capture this richness with digital art. I find the process a powerful medium of understanding and navigating the realities we face in life. Fusing photographs of nature, with photographs of our own creations creates a composite multidimensional visual which can help us escape from the reality and noise around us. Each image will bring up something different to a given individual. To the same individual, at different times, a given image may mean something new.
Creating visionary art is something we can all do. I use a combination of my own images and royalty free images. I taught myself how to create composite images using a range of software . e.g. procreate, photoshop etc. As technology and my own understanding of our world evolves my art work evolves. I encourage you to explore this art form as a way of expressing yourself. It is uncomplicated and can be a very cathartic experience to layer and express the landscapes of your own soul.
My own photography is largely done on my i phone. I am very grateful to both the evolving technology and the i phone Photo academy which opened my mind to the possibilities with an i phone. I do have a good camera too but often I am caught out without it. My phone camera is is my loyal companion. A solar powered pocket charger has rapidly decreased my moments without camera.
I do love the potential of post processing images however, the romance of photographing light at dawn and dusk, and the interplay of light and shadow on a human face will never loose its charm on me. I find these times when I check out of the busyness of my life and simply look with fresh eyes deeply healing. It is almost like a meditation to me. Sometimes I play faint music as I lean into a beginners mind.
Sometimes my digital art draws inspiration from the great artists of the past. I always try to see through the artists eyes. What were they thinking ? What period was the art set in ? What story hope or dream does the art try to convey ? How does it relate to life today ? How does it relate to me ? I love art that invokes emotion, educates and uplifts the human spirit.
Visionary art is a phrase which can mean many things. To me it means artistic expressions that uplift the human soul. They can be created in so many ways. Paint brush on canvas, chisel to stone or on your phone! However, it is created and however we may define visionary art may we allow it to inspire us and uplift us.
Begin by gazing at this picture. Explore the detail and feel yourself standing in the position of the person in the image. Now close your eyes. Breathe slower and deeper and explore the night sky. Simply be and breathe. Allow whatever comes up to simply be. Breathe. When you feel ready open your eyes and return.
Have you ever wondered - how much time do we give to thoughts, and actions that focus on a world we want to live in ?
We live in a noisy world which gives us many opportunities to fret, worry and feel frustrated about the world we do not want to live in.
As a junior doctor I learnt to practice reflective medicine. Ten minutes after my evening meal. I would look back on my day - the ups downs, successes and lessons learnt. Reflecting on my day gave me perspective to define what I wanted to see happen the next day. Daily reflections gave rise to a library of learning and a focus on simply being the best doctor I could be that day.
Life showed me her tests. It was not always easy to look after family and juggle the demands of my own life. Yet, one thing stayed with me. A vision board. It has taken so many different forms. A pin board in a college dorm room, a poster board in junior doctor residences, a mosaic on a my bed room wall, mind movies, a picture book created on my computer, a photo collection on my phone. Taking time to create my world and believe in the possible always helped.
I encourage you to create a vision board. Share it with those you love. Create community vision boards. Be creative - use words, pictures, draw, paint, make your own mini movie...
Let us spend more time with attention on the world and find the inspired action and resources to make it happen.
